When Ben’s Cookies came to OLLYWOOD with the brief for their Westfield Stratford kiosk, the challenge was clear: build a mid-mall retail unit that could withstand one of the highest footfall environments in the UK while authentically representing a brand that has been baking since 1983.
The Brief
The kiosk needed to feel warm, artisan, and distinctive — immediately recognisable as Ben’s Cookies without being a carbon copy of their previous units. It needed to function as a high-volume food service counter, capable of serving hundreds of customers per day without showing the wear. And it needed to satisfy the exacting fit-out requirements of Unibail-Rodamco-Westfield, whose standards for mid-mall installations are among the highest in European retail.
The Design
At the heart of the design is a bespoke raked timber fascia — hundreds of individual timber rods set in a wave formation, each one hand-fitted to create the signature flowing profile. Beneath the counter, LED strip lighting traces the wave and casts a warm glow across the polished floor. The overall effect is of a piece of furniture rather than a retail unit.
The brand’s signature red appears as bold architectural panels at either end, framing the timber fascia and carrying the illuminated logo. A glass display case on top allows the product to be the hero. Every element of the kiosk was designed, manufactured, and installed by OLLYWOOD.
The Challenge
Mid-mall installations at Westfield are logistically complex. All deliveries happen out of hours. All works happen in phased windows around trading hours. The kiosk had to be pre-fabricated in our Cardiff workshop, transported to London, and assembled on site within a tight installation window with no margin for error.
The wave fascia — with its hundreds of individual timber components — required precise prefabrication to ensure it assembled correctly on site. Every rod was cut, finished, and numbered in our workshop before a single piece left Cardiff.
The Result
The kiosk opened on time and has been trading successfully at Westfield Stratford ever since. It is exactly what a mid-mall retail unit should be — a piece of considered design that stops shoppers, communicates the brand, and works hard day after day.
