When Naski approached OLLYWOOD to fit out their new Cardiff location, the starting point was a blank industrial unit. Concrete floor. Bare walls. A corrugated steel roof. And a brief to create a retail environment that would make ski and snowboard enthusiasts feel like they had walked into an alpine village.
The Brief
Naski is not a generic sports retailer. It is a destination for people who are passionate about skiing and snowboarding — people who will notice if the environment does not match the ambition of the brand. The brief was to create a space that felt authentic to the mountain experience: warm, textured, and immersive, but also functional as a high-performance retail and service environment.
The Design
The centrepiece of the space is a full alpine chalet structure, built from scratch inside the industrial unit. Structural timber posts, horizontal log-stack cladding, a pitched roof profile — all built by OLLYWOOD’s joinery team and installed as a permanent feature within the retail floor. Inside the chalet structure are the changing rooms, fitted with warm lighting and finished in natural materials.
The service counter is a piece of bespoke furniture: a timber and corrugated steel structure with a hand-crafted pergola above, pendant lights hanging from the cross-beams, and a log-stack backdrop framing the branded counter fascia.
Full-height mountain graphics cover the rear wall — a panoramic alpine landscape that extends the space visually and immerses customers in the world of winter sports. Contravision window panels bring the outside world into the brand story without sacrificing privacy.
A boot fitting area, hidden workshop, and rear office complete the functional requirements of the space.
The Process
Everything was designed, manufactured, and installed by OLLYWOOD. The chalet structure was engineered in our Cardiff workshop, transported in components, and assembled on site. Every element — from the log-stack cladding to the bespoke counter to the full-wall graphic — was produced in-house.
The Result
Naski is now one of Cardiff’s most distinctive retail environments. Customers regularly comment on the space as much as the product. It is exactly what a specialist retailer should be — a place that communicates passion, expertise, and authenticity from the moment you walk through the door.
